Parting line

Also called parting seam, split line, witness line, mould line

This entry has not been translated yet and is shown in English.

Where the halves of a mould meet, printed onto every part that comes out of it as a faint raised seam. It exists whether or not anyone designed it — the only real choice is where it lands. Put it on an edge and it disappears; put it across a highlight and it is visible under paint forever.

Section through a closed two-part mould with the split placed at the widest point of a domed cavity. Draft runs away from the split in both directions; the seam it will leave is marked on the part's silhouette.
