Apex

The junction where two diagonal strokes meet at the top of a letter, as in A and the peaks of M and W. The mirror-image junction at the bottom — V, W, the base of M — is the vertex. The interior angle at either is the crotch, and it is the place a designer thins the stroke to stop the join going black.
In practice
Both are routinely called "the point". Apex is up, vertex is down; a W has two apexes and one vertex, or the reverse, depending on how it's drawn.
